* How do we do it?
Midwesthelicam.com uses precision Radio-Controlled Helicopters to fly at altitudes much lower than manned aircraft are able to. This allows us to capture shots not available any other way.

* How do we know what pictures we're taking if we're not up there taking them?
Our process actually requires 2 people to operate different aspects of the aerial photo session. One person is resonsible for flying the helicopter, which is a skill that takes a lot of practice to develop. The other person operates the camer equipment. This person uses video glasses and a radio downlink that transmits what the camera is seeing in real time. In addition to this, the camera operator uses a radio control system that allows panning, tilting, and zooming the camera to get the perfect picture. When the shot is properly framed, there is a switch on the controller that will tell the camera to take the picture.

* So, we just use toys to take pictures?
These helicopters are far from toys. With a main rotor diameter of nearly seven feet, a very advanced electronics system, and hundreds of parts to maintain, these machines could be dangerous when controlled by an inexperienced pilot. Our Helicopter pilot has been flying RC Helicopters for over 4 years, and is quite good at stunt flying as well.

*How long does a typical phot session take?
Ultimately this depends on several factors, surrounding areas, weather, the position of the sun, but generally most jobs take about an hour at the photo site.
